Grandma’s Italian Pizza Crust Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (around 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape the crust: Punch down the dough and divide it into two balls. Roll out each ball into your desired pizza shape on a floured surface.
  6. Pre-bake (optional): For extra-crispy crust, pre-bake each crust at 475°F (245°C) for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
  7. Top and bake: Add your favorite toppings and bake at 475°F (245°C) for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
